István Vas was born 110 years ago

We celebrate the 110th anniversary of the birth of István Vas on 24 September.

On the occasion of the anniversary, the two rooms of the István Vas collection on the first floor of the Knowledge Centre will be renamed. From this day on, one of the rooms will be named after István Vas, poet, writer and translator. The other room will be named after his wife, Piroska Szántó, painter, graphic artist, writer, worthy and excellent artist. In connection with the commemoration, we prepared an exhibition and some online games.

Entering the building of the Knowledge Centre, on the ground floor we can take a look at a showcase containing some books related to István Vas and Piroska Szántó, and some objects reminiscent of them. Walking up to the first floor, you can see an exhibition that represents their work in the rooms named after them. In the Vas István room we may feel as if we are in his workroom. With the furnishing of the Szántó Piroska room, we wanted to depict the studio environment realized in the atmosphere of home. Leaving the rooms, it is worth flipping through the books at the loan desk, reading a poem, or having a look at the illustrations. These books can be borrowed so the experience can be “taken home”.

In regard of István Vas and Piroska Szántó, we are planning an online commemoration as well as some games. These games with various themes will be announced at regular intervals on our Facebook and Instagram pages, so it’s worth following them.

The exhibition is open from 24 September to 30 October, 2020.
