Earth Hour – Vitrine exhibition

This month's topic is the Earth Hour. Read on to explore all the different ways you can take part. No matter where you are in the world, you can make an impact and join us for the Hour as we shape our future!

Switch off your lights but keep your eyes open

Every year, we countdown together across the globe to celebrate Earth Hour and take part in the world’s biggest voluntary action: switch off the lights.

But it is so much more than that. It is a symbol of unity. It is a symbol of hope. It is a demonstration of the power of collective action for our future and the planet’s.

Take part on your own or attend an event

No matter where you are in the world, you can make an impact and join us for the Earth Hour as we shape our future.

The wellbeing and health of our supporters around the globe is our priority and we encourage everyone to take part in Earth Hour safely - whether virtually or in-person - based on your local circumstances and guidelines.

Tips how to spend the Earth Hour

  • HAVE A NIGHT OF BOARD GAMES OR BOOK READING IN CANDLE-LIGHT

  • DINNER-IN-THE-DARK – Get some candles ready and whip up healthy and delicious meals that will make your taste buds tingle!

  • TRY OUT NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY OR “LIGHT PAINTING” – Try taking portraits of your family and friends in low-light or candle-light! You can also try out “light-painting” with your camera - we recommend a tripod and a slow shutter speed!

Tips for kids

  • SWITCH OFF ALL THE LIGHTS and put on a shadow puppet play! Cut out different shapes of animals, set up a stage using cloth and light and let the shadows come to life! Further set the mood by transforming your pillows and blankets into a mighty fortress!

  • TREAT YOUR YOUNG ONES TO A THRILLING SCAVENGER HUNT! – Turn off the lights, and hide items around the house. Challenge your young ones to find all the hidden items within a certain time limit, using only a flashlight!

  • TRY TIE-DIE – If your young one is tired of boring white socks or has too many old T-shirts, get together to tie-dye them! All you need is a white piece of clothing, a bucket or a basin, water, rubber bands, some gloves, and different colored dyes.

  • CAMP IN YOUR BACKYARD OR LIVING ROOM – If you love the adventure of camping outdoors, we challenge you to turn your back garden or living room into your very own camping space! If you don’t have an actual tent, make one with bedsheets and pillows!

  • YOU CAN ALSO TRY USING GLOW-IN-THE-DARK NEON PAINT!
