ELSEVIER news

According to its two days advance notification, Elsevier has discontinoued the access of the Hungarian EISZ consortium and the University of Pécs to ScienceDirect and Scopus databases from 11th January 2019 onwards.
The negotiations with Elsevier had been terminated on late December 2018 as the publisher did not address the requirements of the Hungarian consortium regarding full transition to Open Access.

The situation being as it is, there are various legal ways to find the content you need:

1. On the website of the EISZ consortium there is a great list of free and legal alternative solutions, such as browser plug-ins (Unpaywall, Kopernio, Open Access Button, Lazy Scholar and Google Scholar Button), other databases (e.g. DOAJ, DOAB, SciELO, Zenodo etc.), repositories (e.g. BASE or OpenDOAR) and preprint servers (specialty and other preprint servers).

2. Although it is not free, the Library has interlibrary loan service as well. Because of the situation is the same in the entire country, nobody has access to these databases in Hungary, so the required content should be requested from abroad, which has additional costs.
For further information please go to the website of the Library, or ask it personally at the faculty libraries or at the Centre for Learning.

Database news - Hungarian Consortium terminates negotiations with Elsevier

As like as all of the other Hungarian institutes, the University of Pécs subscribes to Elsevier products, such as ScienceDirect, Scopus, and SciVal databases via the Hungarian national consortium called EIS National Programme, managed by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

As the agreement between EIS and Elsevier will end at the end of 2018, the consortium initiated negotiations in March.

15. December 2018. the official statement has appeared on the website of the EIS, that now we publish without changes.

"Hungarian Consortium terminates negotiations with Elsevier

EISZ initiated negotiation process with Elsevier in March 2018 regarding the subscription to ScienceDirect, Scopus, and SciVal for 2019. The goal of the negotiation was to reach a read & publish agreement which would facilitate a swift and full transition to Open Access.

Unfortunately, the proposals of Elsevier did not address the requirements of the Hungarian Negotiation Committee, therefore, EISZ Consortium will not renew the subscription to ScienceDirect, Scopus, and SciVal in 2019.

We will soon publish an English language Questions and Answers article on our website, informing the international community about the nature of the negotiations.

EISZ Department is at full disposal in case of any questions."

Of course, if you have any questions, the University Library of Pécs and Centre for Learning is also full at your disposal.

The termination of the negotiations will not take effect on the ClinicalKey subscription of the University of Pécs, so most of the biomedical content will still be available for the citizens of the UP.
