My name is Boglárka Ságiné Balaton, and I am the Deputy Director of Nursing at the Department of Rheumatology and Immunology at the University of Pécs Clinical Centre. PTE has been a part of my life since 1996, when I became a registered nurse student of the then POTE Faculty of Health Sciences. From 2000 on, I participated in the first B.Sc. nursing programme in Hungary, which was launched in Pécs.

I came into contact with the immunology department, the predecessor of my current workplace, as a student. I count myself lucky as I followed the birth of a clinic, and learnt the basics of nursing - discipline, patience, perseverance, empathy and teamwork - as the youngest of the department.

I felt honoured that Professor László Czirják trusted me when my predecessor retired in January 2007, and I have been able to lead the community of the clinic's staff since then.

As a result of conscious construction, the clinic has grown to become the region's leading provider of 62 beds, three inpatient wards and a busy emergency department.

The clinic has also marked the emergence of a new discipline in the life of the university. Adapting to this, we prepared a note for practitioners on the nursing knowledge of the most important pathologies. Later on, internal training courses were held to ensure the effective acquisition of this knowledge.

Active learning is also possible outside the clinic. We are always proud when we participate in the scientific events of national and international partner institutions in the colours of the University of Pécs.

I work with colleagues who are committed to the goals of the University and its clinics, and who work successfully as a team.

I try to foster staff cohesion despite the difficult circumstances, and I organise several successful recreational events every year. Our team has won the cooking competition at the PTE Dragon Boat Regatta.

We have recovered from the shock of the Covid pandemic and rebuilt the stable professional staff that is essential for the clinic to function.

The University of Pécs is a dominant factor not only in my work, but also in my private life, which is shown by the fact that my husband is also a university employee and my sons seem to live up to the slogan "PTE is from nursery to university".
