Vitrine exhibition I Tokyo 2020 I Fun facts about the Olympics

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games – planned for 2020, but to be held in 2021 – can be considered the “first” in many aspects. We collected some of the most interesting fun facts to you!

• *    This is the first Olympics that have been postponed. In the course of history, a total of 3 Summer and 2 Winter Olympic Games have been cancelled so far, the causes of which can be linked to the two world wars.

  *      Similarly to the European Football Championship, the organizers of the Olympics kept the year “2020” in the logo instead of using “2021”.

  *        For the first time, the Olympics will be held in an odd year.

  *     At the Olympic opening ceremony László Cseh (swimmer) and Aida Mohamed (fencer) will bear the Hungarian flag. This will be the first time when the flag-bearers have to be a man and a woman.

  *    The new sports that will be appearing at the games are baseball/softball, karate, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing. From these, Hungary represents itself in surfing and karate.

  *       Due to the pandemic, no foreign fans will be allowed at the events this year.

  *   The Tokyo Olympics are organized in the spirit of sustainability and environmental protection. Beds made of paper, podiums made of detergent bottles, medals made of used cell phones, self-driving cars, face recognition systems, robots and more! Isn’t it exciting?

  *    Miraitowa (Summer Olympics) and Someity (Summer Paralympics) are the two official mascots of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. There will be robot versions of them with whom fans can communicate.

  *   At the Olympics this year, we can support several athletes from Pécs, including swimmers Katinka Hosszú, Zsuzsanna Jakabos, Bence Biczó and Tamás Kenderesi, along with Bence Bicsák, one of the most successful triathletes in Hungary, and Dóra Pásztory, a two-time Paralympic winner swimmer.
